Oh right, his mother buys cookies for him because she knows it makes him happy. Come ON!
It seems to me that parents have lost sight of what "parenting" really is (aka, setting limits) and have gotten flat out lazy. Now I'm not a parent but I don't think doing the right thing for your children is rocket-science. My mom used to feed us a LOT of food and used the oh-so-popular phrase "You can't have dessert if you don't finish your dinner." But that was usually because I didn't want to eat my vegetables or the horrid tuna-helper she used to make (I would proudly go without dessert if it meant I didn't have to finish that gawd-awful dinner-in-a-box).
Althought I've never been obese, I know what it's like to be at an unhappy weight. I was miserable, never went shopping for new things because I thought I didn't deserve them, and stayed indoors a LOT. Even now that I'm at great place in my life -- with a home a wonderful fiancee and a prospective future career in nursing -- I know that maintaining a healthy weight, and most things in life, don't come easy.
About a month ago I went into a bridal boutique to try on wedding dresses. I went alone so one of the girls who worked there (who was about my age) helped me try a few one. I was standing in my bra and panties and she handed me a dress; once I had it on and was standing in front of the mirror she said, "Wow you are so tiny!" I made some comment that I worked hard for it and used to be almost 30 lbs heavier (I stand almost 5'8" and was 150, you can do the math). She replied saying, "Well good!!!" as if to say Thank gawd she doesn't get that body by eating oreos and cheeseburgers! No I am not one of those girls with an abnormally spastic-fast metabolism (but my identical twin sister does have that).
That's all for now, I kind of just hit a writing block :-( boooo!
